The geology of our planet is a very interesting subject.
In our field It can also be the difference between an easy and a hard job. There is a large range of substrates beneath the earth’s surface – chalk, rock, clay, sand, gravel etc. for which the drilling methods and tooling differs.
Below is a link to the British geological survey, just one of the tools when we are doing an appraisal of the job in hand. This details all water wells and boreholes that have been recorded. Some will have logs of geology and some wont.
Whilst you can never be certain of the exact geology in any given spot it generally points us in the right direction regarding what to expect.
